Co-op Promotions – Alger Delta’s Troy Tiernan is the co-op’s new operations manager. He ascends to the position after nine years with the co-op and four years of previous experience with contractors and other line constructors. Tiernan’s first priority will be to fill the lineworker position left vacant by his promotion. At Great Lakes Energy, the board has taken action to promote Bill Scott from chief financial officer (CFO) to chief operating officer (COO) and CFO. Scott began his GLE career in 2002. Nancy Tanner, Wolverine Power, has accepted a promotion to an associate power coordinator position in the co-op’s Merchant Operations Center. She was previously director of communications and member relations and has worked for Wolverine for 16 years.
‘Learn While You Lunch’ Started At Midwest Energy – The co-op’s financial analyst, Linda Carango, has set up monthly “Lunch and Learn” events over the winter to help co-workers better understand and use Excel software. Sessions begin with 15-20 minutes of teaching on a specific topic, then 15-20 minutes of testing their new skills on computers set up in a meeting room. Short YouTube “Tips & Hints” videos with more topics to watch at other times are also available. Other employees with particular skills are also encouraged to share with co-workers over a “Lunch and Learn.”
Great Lakes Employees Make Community Donations – The co-op’s employees raised $5,913 for local charities through silent auctions held at their 2013 holiday luncheons. Businesses, individuals and co-op departments donated the auction items. Proceeds were split between 10 charities in the co-op’s nine service areas, including several food pantries. Employees have been holding the silent auctions for about six years and have raised a total of $32,300 in donations.
