MECA recently hosted an in-state training series for co-op supervisors that was attended by 84 Michigan co-op employees. The NRECA Supervisory Certificate program teaches the core competencies required of supervisors in the areas of leadership, communication and administrative skills. The 3-day training session included courses on topics such as time management, managing change and resolving conflict through negotiation.
“Our people were so pleased with how relative the training was to them,” says Nancy Skidmore, executive assistant to the president/CEO for Cloverland Electric Co-op. “One employee said that he thought, as he was listening to the instructor, ‘This is directed right at me!’” she adds. “Our thanks to MECA for making this employee training opportunity available at such a fantastic price!”
“MECA’s goal has been to bring high quality training into the state at a lower cost, which gives all co-op employees and directors easier access to these opportunities,” explains Craig Borr, MECA CEO.
Those that attended the supervisory training will complete their certification at another in-state session to be held in October. Other training for the rest of 2014 includes a Safety Supervisor training series, Board Leadership courses for directors, and a Co-op Foundations workshop.
