Michigan electric cooperative employees recently took the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge” to promote awareness of the disease and encourage donations for research.
Midwest Energy
Forty one Midwest Energy Cooperative employees gathered in the co-op’s Cassopolis parking lot for a company ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The co-op and many employees donated to the ALS Association in honor of co-op members who have experienced the devastating impact of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
“The Midwest family is always up for taking, and issuing, a good challenge to impact positive change,” says Patty Nowlin, communications and marketing director. Roger Bowser represented the Midwest employee family in introducing the challenge. He shared the story of his uncle’s struggle with ALS, and how he watched his dad do everything possible to help him. “At the time I remember feeling very helpless, but today we all help make a difference.”

To keep the momentum going, Midwest energy challenged their friends at Cherryland Electric to take the plunge.
Cherryland Electric
Cherryland accepted Midwest’s challenge and employees donated over $400. They too put their own creative twist on the challenge. There are no words. You will just have to watch to see.
Cherryland got a lot of positive PR on this video. Our post reached almost 15,000 people. Over 50 people shared the video and we had over 100 likes. We placed a donate link with the video and that received several clicks as well. Overall, it was a win for ALS research and a win for Cherryland. Thanks to Midwest for bringing the challenge to Michigan!
